Review: Transformers AoE Deluxe Lockdown Age of Extinction Toy

See the Video Review Here.

Lockdown is the main antagonist in the Transformers Age of Extinction movie. He is a robot bounty hunter looking for Optimus prime. We will be looking at the deluxe version of him today.

Robot Mode
In robot mode he looks ok, but the proportions look really off. He has a large upper body, but with tiny abs, and his arms look really long because of it. They should have made his abs extendable somehow to make him look normal.

His face is highly detailed, but does not come with the green mask as seen in the movies. His hands are small and fixed onto the back door panel which is disappointing and makes him look like a shellformer.

The majority of the figure is molded in dark shimmery grey plastic and some silver pieces. There are very few paint applications as seen here.

On the back, you can see the top of the car folded up. it is large but is mostly hidden from the front. It shouldn't be back heavy, but because of the way the legs were designed, it will tend to fall backwards.

The problem with the legs is the ankle joints only bend so far forward and has no ankle pivots. So trying to put him in a pose with his knees bent will cause an issue.
While we are looking at the articulation:  His ankles moves forward and back, knees forward and back hips can move around. No waist articulation, shoulder joint moves all the way around, the elbows only bend forward and can pivot but is blocked by the kibble, and his head can rotate around but not up and down.

He does come with his sniper head cannon accessory, which he can attach to his head which makes him look ridiculous, or he can hold it in his hand. Hasbro is cheaping out as it is not spring loaded, you just push the projectile out to fire.

Size comparison time.
He about 13cm tall or around 5 inches. Here he is compared to deluxe bumblebee, and voyager optimus.

Transform sequence
The transformation is pretty simple. Point down the toes, rotate the knees and clip together. Unfold the body by pulling the back part off the top, and then the bottom, then rotate the entire piece at the neck area. Pull out the side headlights and move them in front of the chest. pull down the windshield.
Here is the trickiest part, we have to align the hood in to these tabs on front headlight section. Then push the head in flat. the legs should just fold right in now. Straighten out the arms, and they should fold right in and peg into the legs. then close the back bumper.

Vehicle Mode
In vehicle mode, Lockdown is a Lamborghini Aventador. This is a great looking car.
The emblem is painted gold, but although it is officially licensed, it does not feature the actual logo printed on it. The headlights are painted in silver-blue and the vents are painted black. The windshield and windows are clear transparent blue.

It is missing the side door windows so you have to pretend they are rolled down. The door features a decepticon logo, but although lockdown is a bad guy, he isn't a decepticon in the movie. You can remove this logo with some alcohol.

The Wheel rims are not painted and are solid black, but they did paint in the rear brake caliper orange which you can see through the wheels. This detail is pretty amazing.

The rear break lights are painted red, and the rear vents are painted black. No paint on the exhaust.

The gun can be attached to the car using these 2 small holes near the back. but that just makes it look super weird.

There are some streaking of the plastic due to the way the plastic was mixed, this is pretty much unavoidable dealing with injection molded shimmery plastic. With the tinted windows, the kibble isn't too noticeable. The biggest problem are the large visible seams around the front of the doors. The actual seam isn't that big, but because of the paint on the window section doesn't wrap around, it makes the seam look larger than it is.

Size comparison time.
In car mode, he is 12.5 cm long and 5.5cm wide. Or  almost 5" long and 2" wide. This make it around 1/39 scale, which is quite small compared to a human alliance sideswipe at 1/24 scale, or a masterpiece tigertrack at 1/30 scale. He is in similar scale to high octane bumblebee at 1/38 scale.

Final Thoughts
This is one of the only figures of movie lockdown that isn't horrible. It has a great vehicle mode but an pretty bad looking robot mode. Posability isn't great so it would be difficult to hide some of the proportion problems in some dynamic poses.  It is surprising that they didn't make a leader or voyager class figure of this character as it is the major bad guy in the movie and they have an official licenses for the car model. This is definately a missed opportunity for Hasbro.
