Review: Bruin Cash Register -Toys R Us

We will look at the Bruin Lights and Sound Cash Register. Bruin is a Toys R Us brand so only expect to find this at Toys R Us.  For ages 3 and up. On the box it says, real working calculator measuring scale light scanner with beeping sound, play money and credit card, shopping basket with play food. It takes 2AA batteries which are included.

This set comes with the main cash register unit, a bunch of play produce, a grocery basket, and some play money. It only comes with one bill of each, so it would be best to make some copies of the money or use monopoly money and some real coins.

The main cash register comes with a play scale and a conveyor belt attached to it.  The play scale pushes down a little and the scale readings move, but it is completely inaccurate. The spring is so strong that it won't function with any of the items that it comes with.

The conveyor belt is can be physically forced to move back and forth but it is not automatic. the belt is far too small for the groceries that it comes with. The scanning part is nice when pretending to scan as it beeps and has a light when you press down on it. It functions as an equal sign on the calculator.

The Cash register itself is a standard calculator with an LCD display. The buttons are large and have a satisfying beep when you press each button. The buttons are missing a tactile click, and are quite squishy so they require a firm press for it to register.

Pressing the open button causes it to make loud beeps, flashing lights and the cash drawer flies open. The latch is pretty loose as the cash drawer will open on small taps or movement or even when pressing on the calculator buttons. The drawer itself is quite small and shallow, so it can only fit one stack of bills and a few coins. The coin section is actually rounded on the bottom so the coins cannot sit flat, but the drawer is too shallow for the coins to stack upwards.

This cash register also comes with a credit card slot. There is a small button in the slow, so when you slide a card into the slot and it hits the button it will make a satisfying dialing noise.

The register also comes with a tiny pretend microphone.

It is a nice cheap toy for your toddler learning numbers. There are some problems with the design, but kids won't notice. The kids will love the sounds it make when they play with it and the scanning button is great.
