Review: Transformers Prime Weaponizer Optimus Prime

Transformers Prime Weaponizer Optimus Prime is one of the only large versions of Optimus similar to leader class figures except with a weaponizer gimmick. Lets take a look at what we have here.

Robot Mode
In Robot mode, Optimus looks pretty good.  There is a lot of molded detail especially in the torso and neck area. There isn't much to complain about when you look at him from the front, about as everything looks like he came straight out of the cartoon. There is the small lever, slot and yellow switch on the front of his torso which is part of the gimmick, but it is fairly small and isn't too off putting.

Now from any other angle you see a problem, the backpack is Huge. Half of the backpack is to hold to gimmick. Surprisingly this figure isn't very back heavy and seems quite stable on his feet. His legs are pretty hollow also.

Too activate the gimmick, pull the yellow switch to the side. A pair of spinning gattling guns pop out of the shoulders and a red LED lights up in his chest. To reset, just pull the red lever down.

He does come with a plain whitish silver blaster which I have painted silver here. And for some reason has a lot of 5mm ports to attach addition weapons you have lying around. I guess you don't call him weaponizer for nothing.

Articulation
He has pretty good articulation as there isn't a lot of kibble around the limbs, but his head is pretty limited to be able to look about 30 degrees to the side and very little up down movement. Arm go all the way around, 90degrees to the side, 90 degree elbows and bicep swivel and wrist swivel. No waist articulation, Legs go 90 degrees to the front and only about 30 degrees to the back due to the kibble and almost 90 degrees outwards. Knees are 90 and his toes can point downwards due to the transformation. The clicky joints are very smooth and don't really lock into place so you are not restricted to the clicking positions.

Size Comparison
Optimus stands about 23cm tall to the top of his head. Here he is next to deluxe Bumblebee, Arcee, and voyager megatron.

Transformation

Vehicle mode
In Truck mode, it looks great from the front. He looks like he does from the cartoon with minimal paintwork. The smokestacks are a bit short though. But looking at the back it is pretty awful. You see a massive amount of robot kibble and they didn't even try to hide it. The entire forearm and hands are visible, the heels are an eyesore, giant hole where the trailer hitch should be and visible chest window kibble.

The gimmick works in this mode too. Pressing the button by itself doesn't do anything. You have to open the grill first before you press the button to make the guns come out. This mode makes the truck mode look really goofy to me, and now you can see completely through the engine compartment. The guns also point slightly downward.

Size Comparison.
He is about 23.5 cm long and about 8cm wide which make him about 1/38 scale compared to a real semi truck. Here he is next to deluxe bumblebee, arcee, ratchet, and 1/24 scale smokescreen and MP-01

This is an okay figure if you like a large Transformers Prime Optimus prime. The scale seems a bit large in robot mode compared to the deluxe figures. The truck mode is pretty bad. I would recommend getting the voyager versions as they don't have all the unnecessary gimmicks and less kibble.
